The Softer Side of Stone

It all started with the stone. A striking Tropical Blue quartzite captured the homeowners’ imagination nearly two years before this primary suite renovation came to life. Ultimately bookmatched across an expansive shower wall, the richly veined blue stone became both artwork and inspiration for a serene, spa-like retreat built around soft color, natural texture, and warm brass details.

Custom quarter-sawn white oak vanities bring warmth to the cool stone palette, their cotton-whitewashed finish accented by slender brass inlays, sculptural ring pulls, and graceful metal legs. Dolomite marble carries throughout the room—from countertops and shower details to the intricate patterned floor—while a freestanding tub, softly illuminated mirrors, and polished brass fixtures add an understated sense of luxury.

The transformation extended beyond the bath itself. By reimagining the existing closet and expanding into previously unused attic space, the suite gained both a new closet and a dedicated laundry room. There, custom cabinetry conceals four individual laundry hampers beneath a long stone work surface, while an open brass hanging rail provides an elegant spot for drip-drying, steaming, and everyday clothing care. Beautiful and hardworking in equal measure, the new suite proves that even the most dramatic stone can have a softer side.
